Digital System Architecture Overview

Dudley Lab has developed a system architecture that is capable of providing 2-way communication for computer services, using the LMDS/CS microwave system as the backbone. Some of the features are:

• Moderate cost head-end data equipment
• Low cost, easily setup CATV-type modems
• No special software for subscriber is needed
• Data rates of 500 kilobits and greater in both directions, upstream and downstream
• Tolerant to a noisy RF environment while maintaining data integrity

We have delivered digital LMDS systems to Baku, Azerbaijan, South Korea, and Hong Kong. The systems will provide Internet and other services via the 27, 28 and 29 GHz LMDS frequency bands.

The system is available in a hybrid analog & digital form, and all digital versions. Below is a block diagram of an all digital, Internet Service Provider (ISP) configuration, with both downstream and upstream data travelling over the microwave link.
